The original idea of Christianity was to be free from judgment and live a good life right?

So why has this religion been twisted for centuries, and people interpreting it in their own ways to suit their own beliefs and use it to justify sins? Why is it some Christians are against ity, while others think it is acceptable? Why have Christians distorted their own religion so much, that now it is just a mess of lies and shambles and remains but a joke and contradiction of what it once was?
