The mother WILL accept him back. The "human smell" tale was invented by human mothers who didin't want to raise every baby critter in the world for her kids. I'd turn him loose. Wild rabbits dont' do well in captivity, dont tame easily, and never remain happy indoors. He is actually quite old enough to fend for himself, believe it or not.
