I have a Maestro card- can I use it purchase things in shops?

It says Solo on the front, on the back it has the symbol for Maestro, but not for Mastercard. It has money on it (thus not a credit card,) merely a debit card I think. Can I use it in shops in conjunction with my pin in the UK?
